Count forward from the next day
Adding one calendar day to 28 December gives 29 December. Continue across the end of the month and year without restarting the count. For deadlines, distinguish “seven days after” from a rule that counts the event day itself.
Calendar days are not business days
A calendar-day offset includes weekends. “Working day” or “business day” needs a jurisdiction, holiday calendar, and a rule for the first day; it should not be silently treated as the same request. Use an explicit full date to avoid month/day ambiguity.
Try a backward check
After finding 4 January 2028 as seven days after 28 December 2027, count seven calendar-day steps backward. You should land on 28 December. The reverse check is especially useful when an addition passes a month with 28, 29, 30, or 31 days. A proper date calculator handles those month lengths rather than assuming a 30-day month.
Months are a separate question
“Thirty days after” and “one calendar month after” can lead to different dates. For example, a month after 1 February can mean 1 March, while 30 days after 1 February depends on whether February has 28 or 29 days. Some months also lack a 29th, 30th, or 31st, requiring an explicit rollover convention. Use “calendar days” when that is what you mean, and clarify month-based rules rather than substituting a fixed number of days.
Try it with your numbers
Try “What date is seven calendar days after 28 December 2027?” Use “calendar days” so weekends remain in the count. If you mean business days, the holiday calendar and jurisdiction are additional inputs; do not silently substitute a seven-day offset. For a month-based recurrence, ask a separate question with an explicit missing-date convention where relevant.
